Sumnima Garbuja / क
Sumnima Garbuja’s book ‘क’ is a mix of physical and digital collages made from photographs taken in Nepal. Sumnima Garbuja’s family left Nepal to move to Britain when she was young. The photos were taken during trips back to see family and friends. There is a strong sense of this duality between ‘insider’ and ‘outsider’ within the work. The recurring themes within the images are of vehicles, tourism and food, the first two speak to the sense of a visitor, whereas the images of food conjure more of a sense of home and the domestic.
This book plays with the viewer's perception, working back into scanned pages with a sewing machine draws you in to touch in order to understand. Each book comes with a unique cover, cut from a variety of Nepalese Dhaka fabrics.
